DIY Drone: The Flying Fortress Lego Blimp

Drones are all the rage. Chris Anderson, Wired Magazine’s ex Editor-in-Chief, left the magazine to co-found 3D Robotics, a company that specializes in the drone business. We’ve been seeing amateur drone kits come down in price even while the capabilities are rivaling those used ‘professionally.’ But even at the lower prices, they are still out of reach for many DIYers.

Not anymore. Take a look at this beauty of a blimp built by Tyler Westmoreland and Chris Shepard using Lego Mindstorms and two 55-inch helium balloons. The secret is the NXTBee wireless adaptor from Dexter Industries, which lets you remote control the NXT.
